Warm Welcome into the Mississippi Delta

Woke this morning early once again to try to beat the heat and meet up with Roger Vos our guest rider.  The guys left the parking lot shortly after 7:00 am.  The air was so thick you could cut it with a knife. I was shortly behind.  But had to stop and stock up on ice.  LOTS of ice.  Then down the road I went to fill the water bottles.  They did have a head wind but the road was curvy so the wind came went.  You did not want to stop riding because as soon as you did it was like someone turned on the faucet or you sprung a leak.  The salt water just burned the eyes and yucked up the sunglasses.

Roger rode with them to the first little town along the way called Hughes.  There his parents picked him up.  It was fun to see Roger and meet his folks.  I also want to Thank Roger for the stock pile of Skippy Peanut butter.  Especially the chocolate one!!!  Thanks for taking the time to drive and meet up with us. I hope you and your family enjoyed Graceland and exploring Memphis.

Then down the road again we went  The route was flat so we were able to put some miles behind us before we started to melt.  The scenery was lots of farmland with crops of cotton, milo and rice.  Here is a little tidbit for you.  Arkansas is the number one producer of rice in the United States.  Who'd have thunk it???

Dave and Terry finished out the day as usual by crossing the bridge into Mississippi.  Just as Terry was cresting the bridge a loud bang rung out.  It sounded like a 22 going off.  Terry got a flat tire so he had to walk the rest of the way across the bridge.

We ended up at Lula Mississippi just on the other side of the bridge where there are many Casinos.   Non of which will except pets.  So our problem child forced us to look elsewhere for lodging. I decided to venture out into the town of Clarksdale which I did not realize was 16 miles off our route.  But it was worth it as we found a funky place you will not believe.  It is called the The Shack UP Inn.  You have to google it to see this place.  They have taken old shacks and moved them to a single property and rent them out like cabins.  They are steeped in musical history and local folklore history.  Each Shack has a name and a story to go with it.  The main Shack is huge and also has rooms for rent.  Our shack has a full kitchen and a bar counter with colored lights.  There was Blues music playing when we came in and a piano in one corner.  It is too good to be true.  Oh did I say it was an air conditioned shack?  We are so comfortable here!

People from all over have stayed here. People from Spain, Denmark, Australia etc,, The bar here is named the Juke Joint Chapel.  This place is a hoot!!!

We have great wifi service so the blog is done early and we are off to the Chapel for a cold one.

Put on some Keb Mo cds and you will be transported here too.

Good night from the Mississippi Delta!

Terry, Dave & Julie

  2. Just checked the weather in your area, and while it is very hot here, it appears to be even hotter there, and since you are out in the heat riding your bikes rather than in an air conditioned gym pretending to be preparing for your next adventure like me. LOL
BE CAREFUL!!! Sure have enjoyed reading your blogs and looking at the pictures. Hard to believe you're on the last leg of your journey. Congratulations on another awesome trip. 🚴
